This treatment may involve the use of either an unlicensed medicine or a licensed medicine prescribed outside of its approved use (known as “off-label”).

Based on your responses, one of our qualified prescribers has identified this as a potentially suitable option for you. In UK clinical practice, clinicians may recommend unlicensed or off-label treatments where, in their professional judgement, it is appropriate for an individual patient and suitable licensed alternatives are not available or appropriate.

All treatments are prescribed on a named-patient basis and will undergo a full clinical review by a qualified prescriber before being approved and dispensed.

Minoxidil 5%, azelaic acid 2%, purified water, propylene glycol and ethanol.

Minoxidil is generally well tolerated, but as with all treatments, some people may experience side effects.

The most common side effects are related to the scalp and application site, including:

Itching or irritation
Dryness or flaking
Redness or mild burning sensation

Some people may notice increased hair shedding during the first few weeks of use. This is usually temporary and can be a sign that the treatment is starting to take effect.

Less commonly, Minoxidil can be absorbed into the bloodstream and may cause:

Headaches
Dizziness or light-headedness
Increased heart rate (palpitations)
Swelling of the hands or feet

Very rarely, unwanted hair growth in areas such as the face can occur, particularly if the solution comes into contact with surrounding skin.

If you experience persistent irritation or any systemic symptoms such as chest pain, rapid heartbeat, or swelling, you should stop using the treatment and seek medical advice.

A clinician will review all your responses to determine if this treatment option is a good fit. If proscribed, please inform your regular GP of your treatment.
